There is soft happiness in sadness and deep sadness in happiness.
I enjoyed this one. An easy read inspired by “the true story of a woman physician in 15th-century China.” Here’s the true story (well, according to Wikipedia) of Tan Yunxian. Tan wrote a book herself which I would dearly love to read but it’s like $50 and my library doesn’t have it.
“Although Tan Yunxian was able to practice gynecology, pediatrics and obstetrics, her experience in other fields was limited. Tan was only able to practice medicine in the country among her friends or acquaintances. Even after she completed the book Sayings of a Female Doctor, she was not able to publish it. In fact, she had to ask her son to have printing blocks cut for her.”
Because MISOGYNY. So much of it in 15th-century China, as in pretty much 15th-century everywhere and also still hanging around in many 21st-century places too. We gotta get our shit together, this sexism stuff cannot go with us into the future.
