• Naming the defaults I don’t want as things I want to be bad at helps weaken the impulse to do them.

Things I want to be bad at:

• being aware of everything around me
• complaining
• criticizing
• having a perfectly streamlined workflow
• keeping up with the newest apps, tools, software, gadgets
• getting strangers to like me
• impressing anyone. I don’t want to be impressive.
• building an audience
• marketing
• keeping up with all the content
• being aware of trends
• having an opinion about everything, especially having an informed opinon. I want to be blissfully ignorant about a lot. I want to not know things. I want to be beautifully delightfully uninformed about entire topical swaths.
• being right
• knowing exactly what to do in every situation
• meeting societal standards
• making everyone comfortable
• being tolerant. I think tolerance is bullshit. I want to be 100% accepting OR 100% clear about what I am not accepting.
• meeting expectations, especially unspoken ones
• taking responsibility for other people
• caretaking, in general
• being hard on my kids. The world is hard enough. I want to be soft with them, tender, gentle, a safe place.
