GARDEN/notes/Choose what you want to be bad at so you can focus your efforts.
- Choosing mediocrity in some things allows me to pursue mastery in others.
GARDEN/notes/Choose what you want to bad at to reset your defaults.
- Naming the defaults I don’t want as things I want to be bad at helps weaken the impulse to do them.
Things I want to be bad at:
- being aware of everything around me
- complaining
- criticizing
- having a perfectly streamlined workflow
- keeping up with the newest apps, tools, software, gadgets
- getting strangers to like me
- impressing anyone. I don’t want to be impressive.
- building an audience
- marketing
- keeping up with all the content
- being aware of trends
- having an opinion about everything, especially having an informed opinon. I want to be blissfully ignorant about a lot. I want to not know things. I want to be beautifully delightfully uninformed about entire topical swaths.
- being right
- knowing exactly what to do in every situation
- meeting societal standards
- making everyone comfortable
- being tolerant. I think tolerance is bullshit. I want to be 100% accepting OR 100% clear about what I am not accepting.
- meeting expectations, especially unspoken ones
- taking responsibility for other people
- caretaking, in general
- being hard on my kids. The world is hard enough. I want to be soft with them, tender, gentle, a safe place.
