Authority is not an inherent right. No one gets authority by default. Authority comes because you’re put in a position or role which has authority attached to it. As long as you inhabit that role without fucking it all up (e.g. without breaking the rules of that role), you get to keep the authority.
Examples: Parents who abuse their kids don’t have the right to exercise authority over their kids anymore.
Those under authority should understand the terms of authority.
There should be clear recourse if those holding authority step out of the defined limits.
There is no authority without commensurate responsibility. If there is, this is not authority but power.
There is absolutely no reason why there should be some sort of blanket respect for authority figures and teaching that there should be leads to abuse in many forms.
GARDEN/notes/Valid authority has clearly defined limits. GARDEN/notes/Valid authority is based on defined criteria. GARDEN/notes/Authority is validated by the agreement of the people under the authority.
