When you start seeing all sides of something, some issue, it’s tough to find ground to stand on. Then you feel disoriented all the time.
An antidote, perhaps: Choose what you’re going to be certain about not on the basis that you know anything (because you don’t, really; who does?) but on the basis that these ideas treated as certainties help you live your life in the way you deem best.
For example, GARDEN/notes/My life is better when I believe in free will. I don’t really need to know if we have free will or not. I just need to act as if I believe it, choose to be certain about it, and then make decisions about my life on the basis of that certainty.
When I realize that I can choose to be certain while also acknowledging that I don’t know, I can hold my beliefs loosely. So I can maintain a certain openness, while still being able to function.
