On the big stage of the world — movers and shakers, authority figures and armies, politics and religion — power is seen as a zero-sum game.
There’s only so much to go around.
So if your group gets more, my group gets less. If my group needs more, we have to take it away from you, or someone else.
That definition is a natural result of viewing power as something we have over others versus seeing power as something we hold for ourselves.
Power as autonomy, or self-determination, is infinite.
Power as domination is finite and creates a zero-sum game.
